About this market
Northern Sweden is among the cheapest places in Europe to buy electricity: Luleå ranks in the three cheapest of the ~46 zones we track on 62% of days, averaging €27/MWh. Hydro surplus meets very little local demand, and the reason the surplus does not reach the rest of the country is transmission capacity southwards — which is exactly why Sweden is split into four zones rather than one.
